Tabula is a series of collages that I create from the grocery leaflets delivered to my home each week. This work builds on past projects where I develop intuitive processes to transform the unwanted ephemera of daily life into meditative objects. I enjoy experimenting with found materials as a means to uncover some intrinsic quality that I can use as the guiding logic for my choices as I create the work. For this project the image of an intricate floorpan emerged as I experimented with the cut-up elements of the grocery ads: grids, prices, products and text. Using the floorpan as the foundation for my arrangements, I transform the visual chaos and unremarkable content of the ads into a contemplative visual space.
